An increasing amount of venues now require proof of a Disco having Public Liability Insurance. Whereas PLI is not a legal requirement, many venues insurance cover can potentially be invalid if they have failed to ensure a third party service is in possession of Public Liability Insurance.
Most Venues Require It:
Public Liability Insurance covers us for accidental injury or damage caused to third parties or property as a result of carrying out our occupation as a mobile disco.
In addition to accidental injury to third parties or damage to other property, whilst executing our duties, it covers us when we hire our audio visual equipment to you (dry hire), which is also to the value of £10 million.
It covers our legal liability to pay compensation in respect of accidental bodily injury or accidental damage to Third Party Persons or Property. Guests or venue staff could make a claim against us if they incur an accidental injury. A venue could make a claim against us if we have caused any damage to their property.
Many venues insist on seeing evidence of PLI before allowing a disco to enter the building and setting up. It also gives you peace of mind, but not only you, the venue your event is held at.
While it is not a legal requirement to have PLI, we wouldn't be breaking the law if we didn't have it, but as we are professional and we take our disco business seriously, we always have the maximum £10 million PLI. So why would you want to take a chance on those that don't have PLI, when you don't need to?
Just in case the worst did happen, you would want the DJ you had booked to be insured.
Having worked in all manner of different venues, many of them now know us and have already seen our PLI and already have it on record so they may or may not ask to see it again, however we always have it to hand, especially if we're at a venue that we haven't worked in before.
